Giles holds a BA (Econ) from the University of Manchester and is a Chartered Insurer.

Giles has worked in the Insurance industry since 1988. After joining Guardian Royal Exchange as a Casualty Underwriter and later Reinsurance Analyst in their UK head office, Giles transferred to Hong Kong for a short spell before being appointed as Technical Director of GRE’s Indonesian business in 1993. From there, he moved to Manila as General Manager of the Union Insurance Society of Canton in 1995, and in 1997 was appointed Managing Director of Guardian Thailand. Following the acquisition of Guardian by Axa in 1999, Giles transferred to Axa Malaysia as Technical Advisor then Managing Director, and subsequently took on the additional role of Regional Director of Distribution and Marketing for Axa’s general insurance operations throughout Asia.

In 2006, Giles joined the ACE group as Regional Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa, overseeing ACE’s existing businesses, and also establishing a new entity in 2007 – ACE Bahrain. In 2010, he moved to Sydney as President of ACE’s business in Australia and New Zealand, and thence in 2014 to London in a new role as President of ACE’s Eurasia & Africa region. He is now responsible for ACE’s non-life insurance operations in Russia, Turkey, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Tunisia and South Africa, as well as for driving development in the wider region.

Giles joined Rosecastle as an adviser in 2009.
