Charles holds a BA and an MA in classics from Oxford University.

Charles has worked in finance for over 30 years, initially joining S G Warburg (1974–1983) where he started off on the asset management side. He later moved to advising central banks of emerging countries on debt restructuring, an activity that he continued at CSFB (1983–86). He then moved to Merrill Lynch, Europe (1986–1994) where he was successively deputy head of equity syndication and relationship manager for the fund management sector.

In 1994 he moved to Flemings (1994–1999) where he headed up Group Product Development and European Marketing.

From 1999 to 2003 he was Managing Director of Govett Investments, responsible for the firm’s open-end business.

He now acts as an independent advisor to industrial and financial enterprises on raising finance. His most recent assignment was as part time head of sales and marketing for Zephyr Management, a New York based fund manager specialising in alternative investment strategies, during 2007 and 2008. He joined Rosecastle as an adviser in 2009.
